Street Style

September 20, 2011

I ran across this blog post today and was pleasantly surprised by the fashion sense of these handsome fellas.  Of course, I had to search around on my own to find a few more well dressed misters out there.  I love it when a man has just as much fun as the ladies when it comes to fashion and expressing himself.  Here were some of my favorites:

Aren’t these great?  Looks like I’ll be adding men street style blogs to my google reader from now on.

Road Trip To Harry Potter

September 18, 2011

The time has FINALLY come!  On Thursday, I’m headed to Orlando with my college best friend, Jamie, to spend a weekend at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  It’s to celebrate being 30 and still totally into things like Harry Potter and theme parks.

i
can’t
wait!!

I’m currently sitting in the Seattle,WA airport for one heck of a layover.  I’m trying not to smile as much because that always seems to get me into trouble.  Crazy out of control smile that never stops!! You’re a trouble magnet, I tell ya.

It’s Work Related…

September 16, 2011

I’m hard at work in beautiful Spokane, WA all weekend.  It’s beyond gorgeous here. Not only that but there’s homemade cookies and other goodies all over the place!!

Busted.

The lovely Jenn made cookies that taste like clouds from heaven so I had to have all of them.  Back to work for me!  OHHH, I forgot to mention that we’re staying at the coolest hotel EVER!! Check it…The Davenport Hotel.

Drybar Dallas

September 15, 2011

{via We Heart It}

No cuts.  No color.  Just blowouts.

This is the genius business model behind the newest craze in pampering!  My friend Jenna and I visited Drybar Dallas yesterday and I loved it!  For $35, they wash and style your hair whichever way you choose.  It’s a super girlie outing in an adorable atmosphere with complimentary cookies and champagne.

Jenna got her hair styled pretty and straight while I went with loose beach curls.  My hair NEVER holds curl…ever.  This may be one of the first times I’ve ever worn it that way and it’s still curly right this second!  24 hours later and it’s hanging in there. Victory!  We’re trying to organize a girls night out soon and our first stop will be Drybar.  Know what’s not awesome?  I totally forgot to take pictures!! Rawr!!

Know what’s awesome?  There are plenty of Drybar locations popping up all over the country!!! Check them out and fall in love.  Tell them Laura Elizabeth Stephens sent you.  They’ll just look at you like you’re crazy but I’d get a laugh out of it.

For those of you that are STILL reading, I’ve got a little treat for you.  I hardly ever blog about my dating life because even I have a hard time keeping up with it. However, I did meet a handsome long haired musician in the Apple store the other day and spent the evening riding around Dallas on his new Harley.  So/much/fun! No, it’s not a long term thing.  I have places to see, people to meet, countries to explore before I settle.  BUT it was a pretty magical night…full moon and all.

Recipe For Perfection

Pumpkin spice latte?  Psh, yea right.  For some reason I cannot get into this drink.  It makes me gag, for real.  I’ve always felt completely left out when everybody talked about their love of ushering in fall with a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte.  So I created my own autumn drink that’s perfection and doesn’t make me cringe.  Next time you’re at Starbucks, give this a try.  It’s basically the taste combination of cool October weather and love at first sight.

Prepare yourselves…
{grande iced vanilla coffee + one pump pumpkin spice + splash of 2% milk}

Great, now I want one.

America, I love you.

September 11, 2011

{taken from my hotel room on the 23rd floor – downtown Philadelphia}

I’m spending the 10th anniversary of 9/11 in Philadelphia, PA.  Every year I get more and more proud of this country.  Regardless of the craziness that surrounds us, I love being an American.

This morning in the hotel, we watched the September 11th footage from 10 years ago. It was haunting, scary and also uplifting to hear from those that risked their lives for friends, family and strangers.  When asked how they escaped the fire and ash the brave firefighters answered, ‘We walked towards the light.’

And we’re still doing just this…walking towards the light.  Towards the only one who can direct our path and calm our hearts when the world is turned upside down with fear, evil and anxiety.  The one who lights even the darkest places.

Be still and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10

Always remember.

Ya Gotta Run…

September 8, 2011

Last night, I was taking an evening jog around my neighborhood just before sunset.  It’s my favorite time to run.  I was thinking about dreams and what it means to pursue them and why taking the first step to pursuing a dream is always so terrifying.  Why is that? The fear is paralyzing and hard to avoid.  Hmmm…

Moving on…

As I was finishing up my jog, I could see the sunset peeking over the trees and buildings but just far enough away where I couldn’t quite catch all of it.  I wanted to see it so bad but felt like God was saying – ‘You can see this, but ya gotta run for it.’

So I ran.  And goodness am I glad that I did.

I think the same applies to our dreams.  We can reach them but we gotta run.  They won’t be realized by standing still.  Even if the fear tells us otherwise.

Austin, Tx…you really should stop being so addicting.  I’m hyped up on a delishush latte while sitting across the table from one of my dearest friends, Carli.  I like it here.

A friend is one who knows you and
loves you just the same.

Dear Diary

September 3, 2011

I drove in to Austin last evening to spend some time with my best friend, Jamie.  We’ve known each other since college and she really is the best.  When I arrived, she had pizza and three gift wrapped boxes waiting for me.  It was a late birthday present, I suppose. I opened the gifts to find something special inside…three boxes FILLED with old journals, notes, gifts from ex boyfriends and memories that I had collected since jr high.  Jamie has been lugging these around since we lived together 10 years ago!! HA!! Needless to say, lots of laughter began as we dove into an endless stream of teenage angst and forgotten memories.

{my 1994 diary}

I have laughed until I’ve cried about some of these entries.  Let me just share with you the first page of this particular diary. Prepare yourself.  It’s pretty awesome.  Take a trip with me to 1994….

Dear Diary,
Wow!  I haven’t written in over a year.  I’m so SORRY!  So much has happened.  Now it seems my whole life is devoted to Jonathan Taylor Thomas!  I know everything about him.  I only have 86 pictures of him on my wall but I want a lot more.  I wish I could meet him.  I know I will.  I sent off an entry to win a trip to Hollywood.  I’ll be able to meet him if I win.  I made 51 copies and sent them all off…

{yes, a real page from the diary}

Mom and dad –
if you ever wondered how all those stamps disappeared…now ya know.

I am crying from laughing so hard as I type this! Wow, just wow. Sweet little Laura.  I don’t even know what’s happened to JTT, the love of my teenage years.  Oh life…you are so funny sometimes.  I never know what to expect but I am thankful the Lord continues to grow me. I’m also glad that I can look back at the past 17 years and be thankful for what they’ve held.  Some moments more embarrassing than others.

Way to be awesome, Jamie.  And thanks for helping me make so many of the memories in those boxes.  We should plan on filling many many more.
